Brittany Ferries sail from Portsmouth to Caen, St. Malo and Cherbourg. We are 90 minutes from Caen, 60 minutes from St. Malo and 2½ hours from Cherbourg. Check out the Normandie Express, Brittany Ferries’ fast catamaran to Caen and Cherbourg.
LD Lines operate a low-cost route from Portsmouth to Le Havre. We are 2½ hour’s drive from Le Havre.
P&O Ferries is another option for a low-cost route from Dover to Calais, you can then follow the route mentioned below from Calais.
By plane:
Rennes Saint-Jacques airport is 70 minutes from the house and Dinard St. Malo is 60 minutes away.
FlyBe operates low-cost flights from Manchester and Southampton to Rennes.
Aer Lingus flies from Dublin to Rennes during the spring and summer months.
Ryanair flies from London Stansted and East Midlands Airport (Nottingham) to Dinard St. Malo.
Aurigny flies from Guernsey to Dinard St. Malo.
By car through the Eurotunnel:
You can also travel from Folkestone to Calais via the Eurotunnel and we are a 4 1/2 hour drive from Calais. This is a really good trip as the roads are fantastic and take you down the coastline towards the Somme, over the spectacular Normandy bridge at Le Havre, around Caen and then through the Swiss Normandy countryside to the house. We have driven this route many times and can give you plenty of info about the journey, even advising on the best service stations and where to avoid the dreaded hole-in-the-floor toilets. From Paris:
For those travelling on long-haul flights into Paris, we are 3 1/2 hour’s drive from Paris CDG airport.
